Is your program appropriate for all grade levels?

What will my students learn?
A new awareness, understanding, and knowledge base. Environmental concepts can be complex and challenging to teach, but having the animals - the "Wild Teachers" - alive and breathing in front of their eyes often delivers the message in a way that no human can. Our programs help students learn respect and responsibility for ecological systems in a way they can relate to regardless of their age. Once students can understand that the human species needs the same things as other species on our planet, they see clearly that protecting all habitats actually protects themselves.

How many students can you handle?
As many as you have. Our school programs have been presented for small and large groups alike.
Elementary Schools
It is most effective to divide your students into two groups so the different age levels can be reached more effectively. For example, a K-3rd grade program lasts about 35-45 minutes and a 4th-6th grade assembly lasts about 45-55 minutes. If your budget does not allow for two assemblies, our educators will present a special whole school assembly that lasts 45-55 minutes.
Middle and High Schools
We will fit the assembly into your available time slot. Middle and high school students rave over our "Survivor Series" animals and our presentation style.

What kind of training does your staff have?
Our experienced professional staff is what sets us apart from other organizations. Our staff of college trained wildlife specialists, environmental educators and biologists are skilled instructors and presenters. We make natural science come alive in what principals, teachers and parents all agree is the most exciting and educationally sound wildlife assembly they have ever seen.

What is "Wild Teachers for Youth?"
"Wild Teachers for Youth" is a collaborative program that uses environmental education, wildlife and volunteering to teach disadvantaged teens that their actions do make a difference. We work collaboratively with some of the most innovative teen intervention programs in Northern California. Their students come to our wildlife sanctuary as both community volunteers and on-site learners. Using live animals as teachers, we inspire learning, build teamwork skills, increase self-esteem, and promote self-knowledge. The on-site activities, such as building housing for the animals and sanctuary maintenance, stress the importance of doing work for the common good, and teaches students that their behavior in society impacts everyone, including themselves.

From cultivating natural intuitive abilities to developing deeper communication with animals, Steve Karlin and his "Wild Teachers" (the wonderful animals at the wildlife sanctuary) will lead you through powerful experiential learning processes.

Where do your animals come from?
As people develop and expand into natural areas, vital wildlife habitats are destroyed and countless animals are left homeless and injured. Many of these animals can be nursed back to health, but would not survive if returned to their natural habitats. For these animals, we use the term non-releasable. These non-releasable animals are placed in our care by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, California Department of Fish and Game, wildlife rehabilitation centers and humane societies. Wildlife Associates has only non-releasable wildlife and cares for these wonderful animals their entire lives.
