Ongoing Support
For those of you who have time to volunteer on a regular basis, we have opportunities for you to help with and be responsible for assigned tasks that are essential in supporting our programs and staff. As an ongoing volunteer, we ask that you agree to a minimum one-year commitment, with a minimum of 16 hours per month (averaging 4 hours per week) of volunteer time.
Trainings, Meetings and Celebrations
Volunteer Orientations, Trainings, and Meetings are held periodically throughout the year. We host an annual Volunteer Recognition Celebration to honor your valuable service. We also invite you to attend several special events, in addition to our school programs!
The Animals in Our Care
The relationships that the animals and educators have formed are critical to the animals' physical and mental well-being. The staff provide a sense of comfort and security to these animals while they are doing the education programs. Consistency and trust provide the backbone of these relationships. These relationships take a long time to develop, and maintaining these relationships is a primary focus for staff. As an outreach facility - not a zoo - the animals' need for privacy, when they are not in the schools teaching children, is respected and honored. Because of this, our volunteers provide valuable support work for the staff and animals, rather than direct contact with the animals.
We always welcome you to see an educational presentation with us so you can see how your hard work and dedication is helping us to educate others about caring for living things and understanding the natural systems on which all life depends.
